For those of you wondering what SOPA/PIPA are, take a look at THIS VIDEO.
As a protest of #SOPA and #PIPA (The Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act) two pieces of legislation that are up for debate once again on January 18, 2012, Syntru will come down. What does this mean?
"On January 18, between 8am and 8pm EST (or 13:00 and 01:00 UTC), Reddit will be blacking out their website in protest of SOPA and PROTECT IP. We request all website administrators worldwide - and especially those running large user-content websites - to black out their website at the same time, to voice their opposition of SOPA and PROTECT IP. This legislation may very well not only change the future of the internet as a whole, but also change the future of YOUR website. Act against it before it's too late."
This is not just administrators, this is EVERYONE. Take these 12 hours from 8 AM EST to 8 PM EST, and do not use any websites.
So... Join us. Black Everything Out. Share this message on Facebook, Twitter, and Every Other Site you have! You can share this quote or make your own: "This account will remain silent on #J18 January 18th, 8am-8pm (EST) as a protest against SOPA/PIPA."
When Assirra and I stepped down as admin this summer, we never really discussed the idea of coming back to take charge of Synthetic Truth once again. In all honesty, we didn’t really want to think about it. A lot of contributing factors (most of which did not stem from ST at all) prompted us to take a sabbatical both from writing and from running a forum.
We had a few adventures along the way. Picked up some new pseudonyms. Created a personal writing site that we’re still in the process of building. Played a lot of Aion. In my case, did a lot of homework. And recently, we sat down to figure out what kind of projects we could embark on that would renew our desire to write.
One of the ones we decided on was Synthetic Truth. It’s sad, having worked on this site so long and so hard, to see it languishing the way it is now. But as there are still new members signing up on a fairly regular basis despite the fact that the forum itself appears mostly dead, perhaps there is hope.
Perhaps all of us, not just Assirra and I, can return to writing with fresh eyes. Or start, for those of you who are new! Allow me to welcome you all, both new and returning members. I hope you’ll join us for an experiment in revival.
There’s no better time than now to start something, after all. So carpe diem, my friends.
What This Means For You
We’re going to be getting back in gear rather slowly since we want to avoid burning out on the whole thing we did last time. So we’ll be starting by cleaning up the forum (which has already begun), and posting a new challenge (which will be detailed below).
Right now, what we want most is input from our members! If you were here before, what aspects of the site did you enjoy most while they were active? What would you like to see implemented again? Do you have any suggestions for improvement? For any and all of you, do you have new ideas you want to bring to the table?
Most importantly, we want to know what you are willing to do to make SynTru active again. Assirra and I can’t do this all by ourselves, and we need an active member base in order to make the site worthwhile for everyone. Don’t wait for others to step up to the plate. I promise, each and every one of you will enjoy this place all the more if you take time to contribute. Even if it’s an idea for expansion or a small comment on someone’s portfolio. Explore. Interact with your fellow writers. If there’s something you want to see on the site, take steps towards making it a reality. We can’t do this without you.
As one season begins to bleed into another, it's time for a new challenge here on Synthetic Truth. In keeping with this time of year, the theme is going to be transition.
Any kind of change will fit the bill. You can write about a character maturing from one age group to the next, confronting some kind of change in a friend or loved one, or even the evolution of an idea that changes the way they think. So long as the piece has something to do with change, transition, or an evolution, it will qualify to be entered in this challenge.

He gives you a necklace. Put it on before you talk to someone you want to marry, though you usually have to help them first

Hey - just got around to reading the points thing (yes, I'm bad, I know) and I don't think I have time to keep up with it. To get a jump on that, please delete my submission.

I noticed today that the links in my profile to my work are dead. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, as I'm only a cbox lurker, but a few of those poems -only- exist on this site and I need to access them so I can save them to my computer! Can it be fixed?
